Our Strategy

Objects of Hopefield Wind Farm Local Community Company

  • Carry on in a non profit manner and with an altruistic and philanthropic intent, socio-economic development programs for the benefit of the public in general but with the specific objective of facilitating sustainable access to the economy by previously disadvantaged communities which reside within the 50km radius of the Hopefield Wind Farm and provided that:
  • – (a) at all times, at least 85% of any expenditure by the Company shall be for the benefit of individuals classified as African, Indian or Coloured persons who are South African citizens by birth or descent or are citizens of the Republic of South Africa by naturalization occurring before 1993 or occurring after 1993 but who would have been naturalized prior to 1993 but for the Apartheid policy; and
  • – (b) all of the activities of the Company shall be based in the Republic of South Africa.”

Strategy

*Funding Principle:
80% of the Local Company’s Budget each year to be spent on long-term sustainable projects with the remaining 20% being allocated to smaller projects.

Education

Key Projects (0-5 Years)

  • The provision of scholarships and bursaries.
  • Adult Basic Education & Training.
  • Support after-school educational programmes.
  • Supporting programmes addressing needs in education provision, learning, teaching, curriculum support, governance and whole school development.
  • Support infrastructure projects at schools.

Objectives

  • To improve the quality of education in rural communities.
  • To ensure each person has access to tertiary education.

Social Welfare

Key Projects (0-5 Years)

  • Support social welfare initiatives in relation to the elderly, physically or mentally abused, and persons with disabilities.
  • Support social welfare initiatives in relation to the empowerment and development of women.
  • Support initiatives relating to children with special needs.
  • Infrastructural community-based projects.

Objectives

  • Poverty alleviation.
  • To improve the quality of life.
  • To empower women and children.

Development

Key Projects (0-5 Years)

  • Support SMME development through the provision of training, support or assistance to emerging micro enterprises to improve capacity to start and manage business.
  • Community-based projects relating to self-help, empowerment, capacity building, skills development.
  • Sports and cultural development – support local sports and cultural clubs.

Objectives

  • Improve employability of the youth through skills development training and leadership development with the purpose of enabling them to obtain employment.
  • Promoting sports and cultural activities.
  • SMME Development

Health

Key Projects (0-5 Years)

  • Support healthcare programmes and initiatives.

Objectives

  • Improving access to quality healthcare

What the Hopefield Wind Farm Local Community Company will not fund:

The following activities are excluded from being funded by the Hopefield Wind Farm Local Community Company (HWFLCC):

  • Political Parties;
  • Trade unions;
  • Individual attendance of national and international conferences and trips;
  • Activities or organizations the objectives of which infringe the Bill of Rights of the Constitution or Legislation of the Republic of South Africa;
  • Organizations or activities aimed at achieving objectives of a particular religious group;
  • Private companies and Closed Corporations;
  • The HWFLCC will not fund expenses that have already been incurred.
